Q - So David the company launched in 2013, tell me about how the business has grown since then.
David - We’ve just grown just by referrals and word of mouth and here we are four years later.
Q - And how important are your clients to this growth you’ve been experiencing?
David – Hugely, they’ve been integral to us since inception, 67% of our clients have come back to us. 13 % of our clients refer more clients to us. We work with lots of clients in different avenues of business and our clients are important to us. Our Trustpilot reviews, case studies and some of our testimonies we’ve had from our clients over the last couple of years speak volumes.
Q - And in the last couple of years particularly things have really taken off.
David - It has, we’ve invested heavily in infrastructure within the business employing experienced people within the industry. We’ve tried to put specialists in each area – so property, invoice financing, business loans which has helped us grow things dramatically.
We’ve taken on Owen Jones as the Operations Director to bolster up our operations direction around the business as we expand and grow. We’ve taken on a Marketing and PR director to help portray us not as a stuffy corporate banking world image.
The website is now more engaging, we’ve enlisted more professional people, to ensure the wording and images are visually more engaging with the products and services that are promoted on it. But also to explain to the customer what we can do and that they’re not alone, and to get that point across to them, that we can help.
Q - So those two join an already experienced team here?
David – Yes they do, we have Lee Ford who was one of the first people we brought on board, he been with us just over a year. He brings with him 10 plus years’ experience in invoice finance, and asset finance and car hire finance industry.
He joins Ian Tovey, Head of Property, who has 30 years plus in Commercial banking with NatWest.
He works alongside James Jenkins, who has joined us on the Broker Relationship side of the business and he deals with the Introducer base, IFA’s and Mortgage Brokers.
Rob Morgan, heads up our Business Loans department. He’s come from Towergate which is Business to Business insurance and runs the telematics side of that business. His team consists of Nicole Rees who works on the Business Loans with Rob, Nicole has an insurance background but also fits in very well with the sales. Nicky Vieira, who has come from a retail banking background, he brings 10 years plus experience in the industry.
William Annett, who’s been in Commercial Lending for 10 plus years, and head up our London office.
So combined experiences being over eighty years which has helped us grow.
Q – And you’ve just been given special status with the Funding Circle, can you tell us about that?
David – So Funding Circle have been one of our main lenders for a number of years, I’ve been with dealing with them here since inception, that’s about four years ago, and we’ve been growing with them as they’ve grown. We complete half a million a quarter with Funding Circle and that’s given us the champion status as you mentioned, and that’s been great for us as it provides us with additional support, dedicated underwriters, preferential rates for our clients, enhanced underwriting timescales so we can get back to the client a lot quicker and completion times are shortened.
Q – So lots and lots going on here then. But obviously like all businesses you have to be GDPR compliant. There’s the new legislation coming in, tell us what you’re doing on that.
David – So we are auditing our business. Our customers, clients and our lenders at the minute which is part of the rules and regulations. Moving forward we’re also cleansing our database and asking clients to re-opt in. We’ve been marketing very sporadically over the last twelve months asking clients to opt in but with the new laws we’ve had to do that again. So we’re sending more emails out over the next two months to see the clients happy to receive specific emails to their business. We’re hoping to add more value to receiving to an email rather than a word email about lots of different products, more specific, more targeted that makes more valid value to their business – so they may have a big contract coming up and its specific to their industry then one of the guys in the office will speak to that client, specifically about their industry and that particular product to help the client.
Q - So looking forward to the future where do you see Go Commercial Finance going?
David – I get asked this on a weekly basis, it’s not something we’ve really mapped out where we wanted to be, we’ve just been growing organically and it’s been great for the last couple of years. I’d like to be the go-to" Broker in Wales and London over the next couple of years, plus grow our departments and teams. We’ve got a really good management team at the moment and I wanted to expand that with more experienced people, but also have other products and other services which will be our next steps over the next few months.
